Legacy of Power » Interviews » Johnny Yong Bosch

1. How did it feel to come back to Power Rangers in "Always A Chance?" Did
it make you wish you were a part of the cast again?

I didn't wish I was a part of the cast; I did that episode mostly because Koichi Sakamoto asked me
to but it was also good to see some of the old crew still there.

2. How did it feel to leave PR after Turbo's Passing the Torch?
It felt good, it felt bad but I was mostly excited to see what would happen next.

3. When you're out in public, do you get recognized by others?
Yep, but now I get a lot of much older people, not just kids.

4. Do you still watch the show (Power Rangers)? If yes, what do you
honestly think about it? If no, why not?

No, I tried once but it didn't really do anything for me.

5. What do you do to keep fit and how long do you have to workout every
day?

Martial arts, acrobatics and weight training. I usually workout 5
times a week for about 2 hours

6. What's your advice for the upcoming actors presently playing as Power
Rangers or yet to play power rangers?

Be prepared, a show could end at any moment.

7. What are your current projects?
Devon's Ghost (in video stores this summer), my band's CD, a film called Subject Nova and some anime.

8. Will you ever come back to the world of Power Rangers?

I don't think so, but I still talk to my fans.

9. How was it like working on the show?
It was a lot of fun in the beginning almost like winning the lotto.

10. Which is harder? Live action acting or voice acting?
They can both be very difficult but live action is harder.

11. During acting, did you have any good or bad experiences?
Well I always think I could have done it better.

12. How did you become part of the second "generation" of Power Rangers
and what was your first reaction to being asked (or told you won the role)
to join a kids show?

I was excited, I mean who wouldn't be. I was from Texas and I had just told my friends that I was going to be an actor
someday. They laughed and said no one makes it from Texas and I said that
I would. And I did. It felt very good.

13. Do you watch any recent incarnations (even if it's an episode or two)
of any of the current seasons of Power Rangers?

Like I said before, I tried but I couldn't get into it. I do like Koichi's directing though.

14. What was your reaction when hearing about the comeback of your former
fellow cast member Jason David Frank?

I was shocked that he'd do it, he told me he would never go back. But it's with Disney now so it's
different.

15. If approached by the producers of the show would you come back, even
though the show is now produced in New Zealand?

I don't know. I used to tell myself that I wouldn't. I don't think I would take it but I don't
know.

16. What is your cultural family background like?
My mother is Korean and my father is German/Irish.

17. Is it true that you once dated Tracy Lynn Cruz?
Yep

18. What were the exact reasons why you, Nakia, Jason, and Catherine left
the show (to put away the rumors of being fired for asking for more money
and what not)?
SAG was crashing down on Saban pretty hard, which meant we
would have to become SAG actors, which also meant they would have to pay
us more. A few weeks later we found a casting call for new rangers in the
newspaper. No one told us anything, so we decided that it was a good time
to go. So basically the old producers of the show screwed us.

19. Is it true that originally only Jason and Catherine were going to be
replaced with Roger (Carlos) and Tracy (Ashley)?

I heard that rumor on the set and I don't know whether or not it was true

20. How close were you with Thuy Trang, and how did you take the news of
her passing away?

She was the only one I never met; I was a little surprised that it was true, because I kept hearing stories of us dying in car crashes.

21. [Question Removed at the request of Johnny]

22. What was it like doing Anime and do you plan on doing more with
Anime?

It's awesome. I am currently working on a few more projects now.

23. Tell us more about Eyeshine? When, how, and why was it formed?
About 6 years ago we were all part of a worship band in church. We were all
learning how to play our instruments at that time. One day I wrote a song
and then another and another. Pretty soon I got a couple of the guys
together and we played them. The songs sounded good and so we kept
meeting. We called ourselves "Mary's Little Lamb" and then my drummer and
bass player left for real careers and it was just me again. I wrote more
songs and got a new drummer and bass player and we called ourselves
"Partly Cloudy" those guys left for better careers and I got a new
drummer, bass player and a lead guitarist. We eventually changed our name
to "EYESHINE" my guitarist left to start his own band. And then my bass
player just left do to complications with his career and us. We got a new
bassist and now we're rocking. We've been playing for about 3 years now.
We just recorded our first CD, still being mixed though. And we're having
a great time.

24. Where do you see yourself 20 years from now?
20 years older

25. Do you still keep in contact with your former Power Rangers cast
members?

Just Karan Ashley

26. Out of all the characters you played like from Adam in Power Rangers
to Kiba from Wolf's Rain, which character is your favorite and can relate
to?

Well they all have a little bit of me in them. I don't know, but if I
could be one of them it would be Adam because if there was trouble I could
just morph, call Zordon, or go hang out at the Juice Bar.

27. What other martial arts have studied other than kung fu.
Jeet kune do, juijitsu, tae kwon do, hapkido, judo and kendo.
